AMD CEO Lisa Su Receives National Medal of Science
AMD Chair and CEO Dr. Lisa Su was awarded the National Medal of Science, the highest recognition the nation bestows on scientists and engineers, by President Donald Trump today at the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C.
Presented during the “New Golden Age of Science” summit, the recognition highlights Su’s career as an electrical engineer and technology leader, as well as her contributions to advancing high-performance and adaptive computing through her leadership at AMD.
Established by Congress in 1959, the National Medal of Science is the highest recognition the nation bestows on scientists and engineers. The presidential award is given to individuals deserving of special recognition for their outstanding contributions to the physical, biological, mathematical, engineering, or social and behavioral sciences. A committee of scientists and engineers evaluates nominees for the award, which has been presented to 529 scientists and engineers.
As chair and chief executive officer at AMD, Su has led the company’s transformation into the industry’s high-performance and adaptive computing leader. The company’s offerings across silicon and software help solve the world’s most important challenges by delivering next-generation computing and AI solutions.
Su has bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She has published more than 40 technical articles. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers (IEEE), from whom she received the Robert N. Noyce Medal, and chairs the board of directors for the Semiconductor Industry Association.
Past winners of the National Medal of Science include Richard Feynman, physicist who helped explain how light and matter interact; Linus Pauling, chemist whose work transformed understanding of chemical bonds; and Barbara McClintock, geneticist who discovered genetic elements that can change position within chromosomes.
